This Policy has been prepared pursuant to the amendment to SO 922 of the Methodist Church which permits in special circumstances, the supply, sale or use of alcohol on Methodist Church premises.
Wherever the term alcohol is used hereafter its meaning is limited to wine. It specifically excludes spirits, liqueurs and bottled or canned beers of any description or any other intoxicating liquids.
It is the Management’s decision that Central Hall should operate with a “Premises Licence” valid for the life of the church, therefore:
1 Subject to agreement by the Management, alcohol may be brought onto the premises only by those persons responsible for organising and/or running an event which is a conference, seminar or training session or such other event as the Management may determine comes within the scope of SO 922 (3A)(ii). Such persons being the “supplier” of alcohol.
2 Alcohol may be consumed at a reception to the event or during a meal included as part of the event (a qualifying meal). The quantities to be limited to a maximum of 2 glasses per person.
3 On arrival all alcohol is to be given to the Duty Manager who will arrange for Central Hall staff to serve the drinks.
4 Under no circumstances may alcohol be sold on the premises.
5 Events organisers must make written application each time they wish to become a supplier of alcohol, such application giving details of their proposals for consideration by the Management.
6 On receipt of a signed application, confirmation of the Management’s permission to supply alcohol at an event will be sent in writing to the organiser.
7 The Management has delegated its power to grant consent to Reverend Vivienne Gasteen and the exercise of the delegated power shall be in accordance with this Policy.
8 Every application to be a “supplier” of alcohol will be treated individually except in the case of repeat bookings for similar events by the same organiser. In which case the previously agreed restrictions will remain in force and the Management will monitor the organiser’s conformance.
9 Any organisation that is found to have abused any of the terms for its supply of alcohol will have its hire terminated with immediate effect and the Management will not be liable for any loss or expense howsoever caused due to such termination.
10 The following events are examples of ones at which alcohol may not be supplied therefore any application to be a supplier of alcohol from organisers of such events will be refused:
(i) Luncheons or dinners which are not qualifying meals (see 2 above).
(ii) Wedding receptions
(iii) Plays or concerts
(iv) Any other event which in the opinion of the Trustees is outside the scope of para.1 above.
11 In all cases the decision of the Management, or its delegated representative, is final.
